Transfer Domain to Umso

You can transfer domains from other registrars to Umso for centralized management alongside your websites. This process changes your domain's registrar while keeping all your DNS settings intact.

Before you begin: Your domain must be at least 60 days old, must not have been transferred in the last 60 days, and must be unlocked at your current registrar.

You'll also need the authorization code (EPP code or transfer key) from your current registrar.

Prepare your domain at the current registrar

1. Unlock the domain

Log into your current registrar and disable domain lock (also called transfer lock or registrar lock).

2. Get authorization code

Request the authorization code (also called EPP code, auth code, or transfer key) from your registrar. This is usually found in domain settings or sent via email.

3. Update contact email

Make sure the admin email address for your domain is current. You'll receive transfer approval emails here.

4. Check expiration date

If your domain expires within 15 days, renew it first to avoid complications during transfer.

Some registrars charge a fee or make it difficult to get authorization codes. Check your registrar's transfer policy if you have trouble.

Initiate transfer to Umso

1. Go to Domains

In Umso, click the Domains tab in your navigation.

2. Start transfer

Click "Transfer Domain" and select the transfer option.

3. Enter domain details

Enter your domain name and the authorization code from your current registrar.

4. Confirm and pay

Review the transfer details. Most transfers include a one-year renewal, so you'll pay the renewal fee as part of the transfer.

5. Approve the transfer

Check your email for a transfer approval message. Click the approval link to authorize the transfer.

Wait for completion

After approval, the transfer typically completes within 5-7 days. Your old registrar may send a confirmation email as well—if you approve there, the transfer can complete faster.

During this time:

  • Your website remains online

  • DNS continues to work normally

  • Changes may be restricted while transfer is in progress, depending on registrar policy

Don't cancel the transfer at your old registrar unless you genuinely want to stop it. Canceling restarts the entire process.

After transfer completes

Once transferred:

Troubleshooting transfer issues

Transfer denied or failed

Check that domain lock is disabled and the authorization code is correct. The domain must also be at least 60 days old.

No approval email received

Check spam folders and verify your domain's admin email is correct at the old registrar.

Transfer is stuck in pending

Contact the old registrar—they may need to manually approve or may have automatically rejected it.
