URL Forwarding Rules
URL forwarding (also called domain forwarding or redirect) automatically sends visitors from one domain to another. This is useful when you have multiple domains pointing to the same website or want to redirect an old domain to a new one.
Types of URL forwarding
Permanent redirect (301)
Tells search engines that a domain has permanently moved to a new location. This transfers SEO value to the new domain and is the best option for permanently retired domains.
Temporary redirect (302)
Indicates a domain is temporarily pointing elsewhere but may return to its original destination. Use this for short-term campaigns or testing.
Set up URL forwarding
1. Open domain settings
Go to the Domains tab and select the domain you want to forward.
2. Find URL Forwarding
Locate the URL Forwarding or Redirect section in your domain settings.
3. Add forwarding rule
Click "Add Forwarding Rule" and configure:
Source: The domain or path to forward from
Destination: Where visitors should be sent
Type: Permanent (301), Temporary (302), or Masked iframe
4. Save and test
Save your rule and visit the source domain to confirm it redirects correctly.
Manage forwarding rules
To edit or remove forwarding:
Go to the domain's URL Forwarding settings
Find the rule you want to modify
Click to edit the destination or redirect type, or delete the rule entirely
URL forwarding in Umso is unavailable when custom nameservers are active (must be managed at DNS provider).
