Transfer Domain out
You can transfer your domain from Umso to another registrar if you want to manage it elsewhere. This process moves domain registration control while keeping your domain active throughout the transfer.
Before you begin: Your domain must be unlocked, at least 60 days old, and must not have been transferred in the last 60 days.
Prepare your domain
1. Disable domain lock
Go to the Domains tab, select your domain, and find the Domain Lock settings. Turn off domain lock to allow the transfer.
2. Get authorization code
In your domain settings, look for "Authorization Code," "Transfer Code," or "EPP Code." Click to reveal or email the code to yourself. You'll need this at the new registrar.
3. Verify contact information
Make sure your domain's admin email is correct. You'll receive transfer confirmation emails here.
4. Check expiration date
If your domain expires soon, consider renewing it before transferring to avoid complications.
Write down or save your current DNS settings before transferring. Some registrars don't automatically migrate DNS records, so you may need to recreate them.
Initiate transfer to the new registrar
1. Start transfer process
At your new registrar, look for "Transfer Domain" or "Add Domain" and choose the transfer option.
2. Enter domain and authorization code
Enter your domain name and paste the authorization code you got from Umso.
3. Complete payment
Pay the transfer fee at the new registrar. This usually includes a one-year renewal of your domain.
4. Approve the transfer
Approval steps vary by registrar; follow the instructions sent during transfer.
Wait for completion
The transfer typically completes within 5-7 days. During this time:
Your website and email continue to work normally
DNS settings remain active
Some domain changes may be restricted while transfer is in progress
If you approve the transfer emails, it may complete faster. If you don't respond, it will automatically complete after the waiting period.
Once the transfer completes, you can't reverse it. Make sure you've set up DNS at the new registrar to avoid website downtime.
After transfer completes
Once transferred:
Configure DNS records at your new registrar (copy from Umso before transfer)
Verify your website and email are working
Set up auto-renewal at the new registrar
Enable domain lock and WHOIS privacy at the new registrar if desired
Troubleshooting
Transfer rejected
Check that domain lock is disabled and the authorization code is correct. The domain must also be at least 60 days old and not recently transferred.
Website went down after transfer
DNS records weren't copied to the new registrar. Add your DNS records (A, CNAME, MX, etc.) at the new registrar's DNS management.
