Transfer to different Organisation

You can transfer domain ownership to a different Umso organization. This moves both the domain registration and management control while keeping the domain at Umso.

Before you begin: You’ll need the Organisation ID of the Umso organisation you want to transfer the domain to.

When to transfer between organizations

Transfer domain ownership when:

  • Handing off a client project to their own Umso account

  • Moving domains between company departments or teams

  • Transferring domains as part of a business sale or merger

  • Consolidating domains under a different account

Initiate the transfer

1. Go to domain settings

Click the Domains tab and select the domain you want to transfer.

2. Find organization transfer

Look for "Transfer to another Umso Organization" in the domain settings.

3. Enter recipient details

Enter the organisation ID of the Umso organisation that should receive the domain.

Once transferred, you'll lose all access to the domain. Make sure you're transferring to the correct account before confirming.

What transfers with the domain

When transferring between organizations, the following move with the domain:

  • Domain registration and expiration date

  • DNS records and settings

  • Auto-renewal settings

  • Domain lock status

  • WHOIS privacy settings

The recipient becomes responsible for renewal payments and domain management.

If the domain is connected to a website, disconnect it first or coordinate with the recipient about website access. Transferring the domain doesn't transfer the associated website.

Billing considerations

After transfer:

  • The receiving organization is responsible for future renewal charges

  • Any prepaid time on the domain transfers with it

  • Existing renewal charges on the sending account are not refunded

Troubleshooting

The recipient didn't receive the transfer email

Check that the email address is correct and ask the recipient to check spam folders. The notification goes to the account's primary email.

Can't find pending transfer

Transfers must be accepted within 14 days. After that, they expire and must be reinitiated.

The domain is still connected to the old site

Disconnect the domain from the site before transferring, or coordinate with the recipient to reconnect it after transfer.
