Auto Renewing Domains
Auto-renewal ensures your domain stays active by automatically renewing it before expiration. This prevents you from losing your domain due to a missed renewal date.
How auto-renewal works
When auto-renewal is enabled:
Your domain automatically renews before it expires
Payment is charged to your default payment method
You receive email notifications before renewal
Your domain remains continuously active without interruption
Auto-renewal is enabled (if possible) by default for all domains registered through Umso. We recommend keeping it on to avoid accidentally losing your domain.
Enable or disable auto-renewal
1. Go to domain settings
Click the Domains tab and select the domain you want to manage.
2. Find Auto Renewal settings
Scroll to the Auto Renewal section in your domain settings.
3. Toggle auto-renewal
Turn auto-renewal on or off. If you disable it, you'll need to manually renew your domain before it expires.
If auto-renewal fails due to payment issues, you'll be notified immediately. Update your payment method to avoid domain expiration.
Update payment method
Keep your payment information current to ensure smooth renewals:
Go to the Billing center here and update your payment method
What happens if a domain expires
If auto-renewal is disabled and you don't manually renew:
Your domain enters a grace period (typically 30 days, but this can vary per TLD)
Your website becomes inaccessible
You can still renew during the grace period, usually at the standard price
After the grace period, the domain may enter redemption (with higher fees) or become available for others to register
